Jerry Miles joins the firm’s Construction & Government Contacts team in Norfolk as Of Counsel.

In Richmond, the firm welcomes Patrick Austin (Of Counsel, Cybersecurity & Data Privacy), Fred Schutt (Of Counsel, Labor & Employment), and Lindsey Brock (Associate, Medical Malpractice Defense).

Jerry A. Miles
Of Counsel, Norfolk

Jerry assists companies in complying with federal acquisition regulations, mitigating proposal risks, protesting bids, defending against government investigations, completing mergers and acquisitions, responding to government auditors, and resolving prime and subcontractor disputes.

After working with the American Society for International Law (ASIL), the Federal Communications Commission, and a private law firm, Jerry spent four years as corporate counsel for Kellogg, Brown and Root (KBR). While there, he worked on matters at the forefront of international and government contract law. Alongside his legal practice, Jerry spent the last decade managing a successful government contracts, corporate, and employment law firm.

Patrick J. Austin
Of Counsel, Richmond

Patrick strives to understand his clients’ business strategies, objectives, and technology infrastructure to provide actionable advice by drawing on his years of experience in the public sector handling legal and regulatory issues and advising the U.S. Department of Justice.

Patrick advises clients on breach response, data privacy, information security, and regulatory compliance related to domestic and international privacy laws and regulations, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (VCDPA), and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).He is a Certified Information Privacy Professional with expertise in both U.S. and European law (CIPP/US & CIPP/E) by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).

Frederick H. Schutt
Of Counsel, Richmond

Fred advises employers regarding compliance with employment laws and mitigation of risk from employment-related claims.

Focused on helping employers avoid costly litigation and regulatory violation, Fred conducts workplace investigations, negotiates employment-related agreements, and advises employers on effective workplace policies. When litigation is unavoidable, Fred has extensive experience defending employers in state and federal courts in a variety of employment related cases involving the ADA, ADEA, Title VII, Title IX, Equal Pay Act, FMLA, and the FLSA, breach of contract, and violation of restrictive covenants. In addition, he routinely defends employers before federal and state agencies, including the EEOC, DOL, and OSHA.

Lindsey Brock
Associate, Richmond

Lindsey’s practice focuses on litigation and medical malpractice defense. With a niche focus on healthcare, she represents professionals in litigation, mediation, and before state licensing boards and credentialing organizations. Additionally, she counsels and defends healthcare facilities, hospitals, and long-term care facilities.

She earned her law degree from the University of Richmond School of Law. In addition to her law degree, Lindsey holds a master’s degree in media and communication. She leverages public relations skills to build strong and creative arguments for her clients.
