WRVB’s incoming associate Imani Brooks was featured in an article published in SoVaNow for her work as an appellate court law clerk for Judge Kimberley S. White. Before joining the Court of Appeals of Virginia, Judge White was a principal in WRVB’s Danville, Virginia office. Imani notes this connection as particularly special to her.
Imani served as a summer associate at WRVB in 2022 and plans to return upon completion of her clerkship in 2024.
The article discusses Imani carrying on a family tradition of lawyering in the hometown where she grew up, Halifax County, Virginia. The article shares, “Brooks’ father and mother, Clarence Brooks and Tonja Roberts, both are attorneys, and her late grandfather, Allen G. Roberts, was one of Halifax County’s first Black lawyers.” Imani earned her law degree at the American University School of law, exactly 50 years after her grandfather did the same.
“Judge White is the reason I am starting my career in the area I grew up in,” said Imani. “She has been a fantastic mentor to me since high school when she let me job shadow her as a Circuit Court judge. It is an honor to finally have a Court of Appeals judge sitting in Halifax County. It was important to me to be a part of Judge White’s legacy and to contribute to the legal profession in Southside Virginia.”
