Vandeventer Black LLP partner, Anita O. Poston, was recently named one of Virginia Lawyers Weekly ‘Leaders in the Law’ for 2017. Attorneys receive this distinction by demonstrating a commitment to their profession by lobbying changes in the law, for impacting Virginia’s justice system, and for their involvement in the community.

“Poston is widely known and respected by judges, clients and her colleagues at the bar for her leadership,” said Michael L. Sterling, Managing Partner.

She has been an active member of several bar associations and she is past president of the Virginia Bar and Norfolk and Portsmouth Bar Associations. She also serves on the Virginia Board of Bar Examiners. Poston was appointed by the United States District Court of the Eastern District of Virginia as a chair and member of several federal magistrate selection commissions, and she served as a Substitute Judge in the Norfolk General District Courts for several years.

Throughout her career, Poston has received numerous awards, including the Eggleston-I’Anson Professionalism Award from the Norfolk and Portsmouth Bar Association, Professional Woman of Hampton Roads Award, Citizen-Lawyer Award, Influential Women of Virginia Award, Outstanding Woman of Hampton Roads Award by the YWCA, Community Builder Award from the Hampton Roads Community Foundation, and Humanitarian Award by the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities.

Poston has been recognized by selection to the Virginia Law Fellows and the ABA Law Foundation Fellows. In addition, she has been recognized as one of The Best Lawyers in America, Women In The Law, Super Lawyers, Women In Business and Virginia Legal Elite.
