Vandeventer Black LLP recently commemorated its 135th anniversary by holding an event with their attorneys and staff members. Mayor Kenny Cooper Alexander was the guest of honor and he granted Vandeventer Black with a proclamation from the City of Norfolk recognizing the firm’s historic milestone.

“The City of Norfolk congratulates Vandeventer Black for withstanding the test of time and for proudly serving the region for 135 years,” said Kenny Cooper Alexander, Mayor of the City of Norfolk. “The firm’s commitment to serving its clients with the personal attention they deserve, as well as its devotion to philanthropy and community service have been crucial in upholding its history and legacy.”

The firm began as a solo maritime law firm practice in 1883. While still maintaining a leadership position in maritime law and trade throughout the years, the firm has evolved to a broader practice of business and litigation serving clients beyond local, national, and international boundaries.

“We would like to thank our dedicated staff and legal team,” said Michael L. Sterling, Managing Partner. “Everyone has played a fundamental role in our firm’s history and success.”

The firm also credits its long-time history to its ability to adapt to fast-paced technological changes and adoption of a progressive and entrepreneurial approach.
