Vanessa is a member of the firm’s Corporate & Business Transactions practice group and has over a decade of experience advising clients on a broad spectrum of matters, including Commercial Real EstateCreditors’ Rights, Bankruptcy & CollectionsCommunity Associations, and Banking & Finance. 

Vanessa’s ample experience in the real estate and title insurance industry allows her to draw on an immense body of knowledge and skills that will aid in any commercial transaction. Vanessa has represented lenders, purchasers, owners, and sellers alike, treating each client to her vast proficiency and understanding of all aspects of the real estate closing.  She coordinated the closings of many diverse types of properties, including acquisition and development deals, golf courses, hospital and surgical centers, office buildings, industrial lots, and many more. 

Vanessa’s keen attention to detail has allowed her to identify and resolve discrepancies or weak legal descriptions within real estate titles, preventing her clients from facing further issues. 

Vanessa endeavors to provide clients with a smooth closing experience by anticipating potential pitfalls early in the process and producing creative solutions to any issue.  

Vanessa represented banks in drafting both complex and straightforward loan documents for use in many different commercial transactions. Her unique point of view allows her to advise clients on the importance of specific loan terms for the uncertain future.  Vanessa ensures that her clients are protected should a borrower fall into default under the loan terms. 

Vanessa is adept in collections and foreclosure law. She helps community boards and managers prepare community association liens for unpaid assessments and provides strategic guidance to guide associations through the foreclosure process (both judicial and non-judicial).  

Vanessa has seven years of experience in the Collections field and is active in several Creditors’ Rights associations. She also helps landlords in understanding the eviction process and, specifically, advises how the eviction process has evolved over time in a complex and ever-changing legal climate. 

Vanessa possesses a unique perspective on default and breach of contract and has extensive contacts within the debt collection, commercial, and title insurance spheres. She relishes the opportunity to share valuable industry and jurisdictional insight with her clients. 

Vanessa graduated from DePaul University with a B.A. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and earned her J.D. from William & Mary Law School. During law school, Vanessa served as an intern for the retired Chief Judge Walter S. Felton Jr. of the Virginia Court of Appeals.
